Bol Co-op
Summary: Branding & Visual Identity developed for a workers cooperative based in Washington D.C.
Problem: As DC’s first worker-owned bookstore cafe, Bol's aim is to provide a warm, and engaging experience for D.C. residents who crave great coffee, books, and space for inspiring talks/performances. A new paradigm for thinking about worker-owned cooperatives in the midst of the inequality of COVID-19, Bol café will serve as a building block for a new economic model in D.C. after the Pandemic.
Solution: I was tasked with developing an identity that reflects the simplicity of the name Bol, which translated into Urdu simply means “Speak”. Inspired by the poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, the name reflects the coop's goal to prioritize convivial conversations and ideas.
I developed a brand tone reflecting an uplifting and empowering approach, by using earth tones to reinforce a welcoming space and environment for the Bol community. To convey hope and change the feeling of change on the horizon, an alternative logo was developed to reflect the post-pandemic hope.
